PayPal offers its own Wallet for use online. It’s available via the PayPal app. You cannot add a Wallet app to another Wallet app. But PayPal does offer its own credit and debit cards that can be added to Apple Wallet and PayPal Wallet.

There are multiple reasons. Apple Pay uses different technology than Google Pay so comparing them as equivalents isn’t possible.

PayPal is not a bank, is not FDIC insured and uses Synchrony Bank for financial services and a savings account.

Apple Cash is a product of Green Dot Bank and once the account is verified is FDIC insured. Apple Cash is similar to your bank account, except it offers the additional convenience of a virtual card that can be used anywhere Visa cards are accepted. Visa cards are more widely accepted than PayPal.

Apple Pay is a payment system that offers greater security and privacy for credit and debit card transactions. Apple Pay integrates into current card payment system and uses industry standard NFC technology. Apple Wallet is just an app that holds the payment methods that integrate into Apple Pay.

Demand Deposit accounts are not a payment method that integrates into credit card payment systems unless they have a debit card attached.

PayPal and Apple have fundamental differences in the products and services they offer.

Wow, your anecdotal statement really do not help…

You CAN add any payment method you use with PayPal to your Google Wallet. But Apple Wallet cannot do so.

There are more payment options in PayPal than only credit and debit cards. I, for example, have a bank account that comes without any card. I have that added to PayPal and used it for wireless payments with Google Wallet for years.

There shouldn’t be a reason for apple not to allow this.

Re: “… I'm currently waiting for a replacement bank debit card …”

A simple “re-issue” of a card due to “extend” the expiration date generally doesn’t require any action on your part.

For a “theft or loss” replacement … depending on your card issuer … the debit card might automatically update in your wallet. (simply check the “last 4 digits” of the card displayed in your Apple Wallet against the re-issued debit card)

If the “wallet card” hasn’t automatically updated; simply delete the old card and add the new card.
