Stolen iPhone

My iphone was stolen and when i tried to find it through the other iphone in the application "find my iphone" help my friend, i couldn't see it´s location. When I bought a new mobile phone and activated my account, I saw the location of the old mobile phone while the GPS signal was working. Why doesn't it work on the website or other mobile devices? I would easily find it and I dont have it now.

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16

If the thief turned off or removed the SIM on your iPhone immediately after it was stolen and it remained so then no amount of using “Find My” by whatever means will locate it. Once it’s turned on and (importantly joined to a network - cellular or Wi-Fi) then it will show up on “Find My”. But that depends on if you’re monitoring it at the time, otherwise you wouldn’t know. The important thing while it’s still in its stolen state is not to sign out of your Apple ID or release it from “Find My”. This is your “guarantee” that the device is in practical terms useless to either the thief or whomever is unfortunate enough to acquire it afterwards.

Hi IL27,

welcome to the Apple (user-to-user) Community.

Re: Stolen iPhone

Sorry you weren't able to locate the stolen iPhone, and congratulations on the new phone.

(If Find My isn't turned on for your device before you lose it, it won't appear in Find My)

Apple support has an article online that may help guide anyone with a lost or stolen iPhone:

Find your lost iPhone or iPad with Find My - Apple Support

All the best :-)

The Find My was turned on before I lost it but my phone I couldnt see on the website www.icloud.com/find or in the application "Find My" and "Help a friend" of another device.

Why is it still not working? If it worked I would find the phone immediately when I lost it.

But I can only see the location with the last signal of my lost phone in the application "Find My" on the new device. Why?

As we are all Apple users, like yourself, in this community, most of us would have no explanations for why Apple (or Find My) does things the way they do. Eg: We have no access to your accounts or details, so no way of checking what happened.

Eg:

Perhaps the thief had something to do with the disappearance and reappearance on Find My; perhaps the iPhone ran out of charge, and was later charged; perhaps Find My or wi-fi was temporarily unavailable in the location ... sorry, we do not know.
