Can't print from iphone

Recently (perhaps after one or more updates) I can't print from my iphone. It is an iphone 12, using iOS 16.7. When i try to print, I see the printer although it has what appears to be an extraneous combination of letters and numbers in brackets after it. It shows my ink levels but when I try to print it just seems to hang on Gathering Printer Information. If I go ahead hit print, it says "contacting printer" and nothing happens. My wife has an iphone 13 and has the same problem. Both phones are on the same wifi as the printer.

Each of us has a MacBook Air and can print with no problem from them.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Do the following, in this order:

  • power off the printer
  • Power off your iPhone
  • Restart your router by unplugging it for 15 seconds (many newer routers have no true power switch)
  • Turn on your iPhone
  • Connect the iPhone to the Wi-Fi network if it doesn’t automatically connect
  • Power on the printer and wait for it to connect to Wi-Fi

You should also check with the printer manufacturer for a software update for the printer.

These steps restart the BonJour network that supports AirPrint, and will usually resolve any AirPrint issues. You probably don’t need to do all of them, but following these steps is usually less work than finding the one that is causing the problem.

Thank you for your prompt response. I had to head out and when I came back a couple of hours later, the doc had printed but still had the same problem when I tried again. i saw this possible solution when i checked on line for this issue. Didn't think it would work.Sorry to have bothered you as it worked like a charm. Thank you for your help.
