iTunes reports “over capacity” number GB.

iTunes has changed how it’s reporting over capacity that used to have a text underneath the visual showing over capacity and then a number in my case it’s like 22 GB.

The phone itself shows that I have about 57 GB free. This device was almost wiped of all apps and all essential apps provide extra room. This issue remains unresolved in iTunes

I then rebuilt the phone from scratch, not restoring from back up, but as a new iPhone the issue remains where the visual shows are completely full graph. In the meantime iTunes has updated a number of times during this issue process resolution no longer reporting over capacity only the imagery shows that is a “full Iphone” with 57 gb free in storage

additional points of reference iCloud has plenty of room 1.2 GB I have a family subscription with plenty of room. iCloud itself shows plenty of room and most of my apps are not using iCloud at all for storage.

also note that on syncing my phone to my Windows 11 PC frequently, it starts with 1 of 3 stalls at 2of3

subsequent syncs show iTunes stall time / out at 2of4 or 3of4

time out is between 6 and 20 minutes

i’ve been tracking this problem for a long while.

I’ve rebuilt the phone I’ve restored from backup I’ve restored from back up as a fresh install rebuilding the phone with nothing from my iTunes, except my photos and my music. As far as music goes I do not have any downloaded music I only use Apple Imusic subscription. No ripped or music from cd or external service.

iTunes itself has been uninstalled and downloaded from the Microsoft store.

iTunes does hang a long time on launch and sometimes will not launch so I have begun to force reset app in setting apps and terminate, repair, rest :

Where reset is only thing that works - to make iTunes responsive.

  1. any direction on maintaining ITunes. After a shutdown
  2. any direction on how to resolve over capacity?
