DV from unsupported camcorder to Mac 10.15.7

Is Apple Mac doing anything about the huge number of DV tapes out there which apparently cannot be digitised? I have tried FCP, Debut, QuickTime but none of them recognise the Canon MV 530i camcorder because it is no longer supported. Even iMovie can't do it... HELP!

My Mac OS is Catalina 10.15.7 using firewire from camcorder to USB

Mac mini, macOS 10.15

Even though your camcorder's manufacturer has not written drivers for new versions of MacOS, all is not lost because you don't really need the device to read the media supports.

  • SD card: You can remove it from the camcorder and insert it in any computer that has an SD-card slot. It will appear as an external drive.
  • Tapes:
    • You can try to find a used camera that's supported by current computers, or borrow one from a friend.
    • You can go to a professional conversion service who surely has all the equipment to do this job.
