IMac with Sonoma. I use Preview to mark up documents downloaded from the internet for genealogy purposes . They can be jpeg, png, and they all worked before downloading Sonoma. Now I can not save any changes at all.

If they are b&w/grayscale they will not work. Not certain if it's a bug in Sonoma or Apple dropped support for them. If that's what they are, you will need to use a different program.
