I'd stay away from Google Chrome. Google is its own entity, and they collect your info based on every time you log in on their site, and browse the Web. As for updating an Apple Device, Apple Safari is required. Using it Chrome without a Google account would be wise, IMO.
Chrome is a huge resource hog gobbling up any resource of your device. Personally, I would not use it because of that as a second reason - first reason: it is a Google product and I do not do business with a company whose only income comes from exploiting users and selling their information. I useboth Firefox and Safari. If you wish to be a seamless google-ite, good luck.
Chrome browser is a good idea only if you want active spyware that is a resource hog.
The fundamental problem with Chrome is that you cannot install it without infesting your Mac with everything else Google does to it. Installing Google on a Mac invalidates most of the reasons for buying a Mac. Specifically, personal security and data privacy are rendered moot.
If you like Chrome as a browser, there are Chromium-based browsers that do not require that you ruin a Mac by installing Google. Brave is one: https://brave.com
But if you are required to use Google products, buy a Chromebook.
