Can I Run Rufus on mac? Rufus available for mac?

I'm having trouble running Rufus on my Mac computer and I'm unsure if Rufus is even available for Mac. I've tried searching online for a Mac version of Rufus, but I haven't been able to find a straightforward answer. Can anyone provide guidance on whether Rufus can be used on a Mac or suggest alternative software that accomplishes similar tasks on macOS? I'd appreciate any help or advice on this issue. Thank you!

As far as I know, Rufus is not available on Mac. It is a bootable USB creation software that can only work on Windows platforms. You can only download .exe file is from the official website: https://rufus.ie/downloads/

To run Rufus on Mac, you have to create a Windows virtual machine. Unfortunately, this is a time consuming process and eat up the storage space on your Mac.

If you want to create a Windows 10 or Windows 11 bootable USB on Mac, please go and try SysGeeker WonderISO, which is one of the best Rufus alternative on Mac for doing that with a graphics user interface. In addition, WonderISO has a built-in feature to split the large install.wim file so the Windows installation file can sit on a FAT32 partition. Here is the online tutorial:

P.S. You can do this in Terminal but the process is quite challenging for beginners (with a dozen of text commands).

To create a macOS bootable USB on your Mac, then you can use the createinstallmedia command to complete the task. Here is the tutorial: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372

Manual Method:

  1. Format the USB drive with MS-DOS (FAT32).
  2. Copy all the contents of the Windows ISO file to the USB, EXCEPT 'install.wim' under the 'sources' folder.
  3. Split the 'install.wim' file into 'install.swm' and 'install2.swm', each under 4000MB to comply with FAT32 file system limitations.

You can find detailed instructions in these two videos:

Using a Community-Made App for Mac:

  • There's an open-source .app program available on GitHub, thanks to TechUnRestricted, that simplifies the process for Mac users.
  • You can find it here: WinDiskWriter

  • I have tried it and it worked well: as shown in image...

Stick to the Etcher, Rufus isn't available for MacOS

Just an FYI to people reading this thread......

Etcher works great for creating bootable Linux based USB sticks and sometimes other utility based bootable USB sticks. AFAIK Etcher doesn't create bootable Windows USB sticks unless something has recently changed. Anyone wanting to create a bootable Windows USB stick will need to look at the option @Rhodesily provided or some other utility which specifically mentions a bootable Windows USB stick, or some other manual method of hacking the Windows' .iso onto a USB stick.

Thanks, I have the same question, can the wonderiso tool handle ISO files larger than 4GB? Because I have a Windows 11 professional version ISO, which seems to be 7GB in size. Can it be used to make a bootable usb installer?
