Imac mini will not unlock with satelite internet

My imac was locked as usual a day ago. Today I turned it on and put in my user name and password. When I did, it would not open and refused the password. I pressed the off button and tried again. After 3 trials I quit. It also will not ask me if I want to shut it down, either. What else can I do to use my computer?
