Spoken content stops working intermittently on MacOS Sonoma

I use spoken content frequently and since updating to Mac OS 14, I find that it stops working for random lengths of time, and then continues. I am on a gigabyte fiber line, using an M1 MacBook Air. Does anyone know how to correct this?

This is an odd, intermittent problem. Without changing anything, the interruptions stopped after I went off to work in another app then returned to my web browser, leaving me to wonder what process was conflicting with the TTS process. My prime suspect, under these circumstances, is bad cache. Over time, cache is removed or updated as Macs are run. Some crap cache must have been repeatedly, incessantly used by the system. Then it wasn't. The source of the crap cache, if this is the case, remains unknown. Possible cure: Dump your system cache using one of the many cache cleaning apps.

I'll continue testing and post here if any source of the conflict becomes evident or likely.

Same here. Will stop while reading randomly, making me have to hit pause/play on the GUI. Today it refuses to use the Siri voice I have selected in settings and will only speak in the default (I think it's Samantha). Really bad to lose an accessibility feature like this.

Will just mention to others struggling with this that you can use the 'say' command in terminal to reproduce a lot of the functionality (save text to a text file, do `say -f myfile.txt`)

So much for accessibility I guess.

This is also happening to me and it's very frustrating! I select a piece of text to read and it stops after the first or second sentence, sometimes it reads a paragraph or two, sometimes it stops immediately or after two or three words.

I used to be able to read whole pages without any problems or random stops.

The only things that seem to help is turning on the Audio Background sounds and the Spoken Text Controller (which I prefer off). Somehow with these on it reads a little bit longer but I still can't have it read whole pages anymore.

Could someone escalate this at Apple? This is a major accessibility issue!

It started a little while after I updated to Sonoma, but other than that I've made no other big changes to my system recently.
