Hey there Doubleyou1998,

While there's not a setting we see on our own iPhone that shows an option specifically for WhatsApp, we'd like to help by learning more about what's happening, along with ruling out some basics:

  1. Are we correct in understanding that when your friend sends you a message using the Messages app on her iPhone, it comes through WhatsApp instead? If we're incorrect in our understanding, the more exact details you provide, the better we'll understand what's occurring.
  2. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  3. We see you have iOS 17 installed, but the latest version is iOS 17.0.3. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then update: Update your iPhone or iPad We also recommend making sure that all apps are up to date: How to manually update apps on your Apple device

Cheers!

Your clarification suggests you are sending to your friend, and her phone is pushing it into WhatsApp so her reply also comes from WhatsApp.

I think the first check is for you to check the settings in her contact details (Your Contacts app), make sure you are sending to her correct target address. I'm guessing you might have more than one messaging contact for her, like cell number and also Apple ID or email.

Likewise, she might be able to see some clues, like do your incoming messages appear in iMessage (Messages app) or in WhatsApp ?

Hi Doubleyou1998,

We're having some trouble understanding what you mean.

To clarify, are you messaging someone in the Messages app, but when you send it, it instead sends through WhatsApp?

Some additional details as to what specifically you're doing vs what actually happens will help us better assist you.

To clarify - I am using my iPhone, texting a friend on her iPhone in iMessage.

Her phone automatically responds to my iMessage by sending her reply in WhatsApp.

is there a way to change an iMessage reply to always reply in iMessage rather than WhatsApp? Is there a default setting I can enable in her IPhone settings, or is it my settings that need to change.
