MBP laptop goes to sleep randomly even when in use

The issue is that my MBP laptop while in clamshell mode and connected to a Dock, will sometimes appear to go to sleep even while in use, disconnecting from an external monitor (which goes dark )and the computer goes back to the login screen. This seemingly occurs randomly even when the computer is in use. This is particularly problematic when on a Zoom or Teams call. See details below. Are there any solutions to this? (The issue occurs not only with this dock/monitor, but with another pairing too, suggesting that the computer/system is the issue).

Thanks in advance. Rob

2021 MacBook Pro (M1) running Ventura 13.5.2. The Mac is connected directly via an HDMI cable to a 32" Samsung monitor and also to a wired USB apple keyboard and mouse which is connected via a OWC Thunderbolt 4 Dock (TB4DOCK). There's also a microphone and a camera connected through the dock. The computer is being powered through an Apple Charger (and not the Dock).

(This was never an issue with my older (non USB-C MBP connected via an older OWC dock)

Hey Robert Batey,

We're grateful that you posted here so we can help you figure this out.

We have a couple of thoughts about this that we want to recommend you start with to try and get things working. We'll share that info below and recommend that you go through each step and see if the information helps get things working again.

  • Have you made sure to navigate to System Settings > Displays > Advanced and ensured that “Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off" is toggled on?
  • Does this issue happen when you connect the external mouse and keyboard directly to your MacBook Pro, and bypass the hub you are using?
  • The latest version of macOS Ventura is 13.6, so we would recommend installing that update and testing the issue: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

We hope this does the trick for you!

Cheers.
