Apple Cash balance escheated to state by GreenDot

Hi,

I'd been holding a small amount of funds in my Apple Cash account for emergencies, there had been no activity for 3 years. Last week there was a notification of a "balance adjustment" on my Apple Cash account, when I checked, the balance showed $0.00.

I contacted the GreenDot Apple Cash support number, and was told that the account had been deemed "dormant" and the funds escheated to the state.

The Apple Cash Terms & Conditions say nothing about this policy. The state (MA) requires institutions to make a good faith effort to contact account holders before the escheat process. I've lived in the same house for more than 40 years, haven't changed my Apple ID or email, and received no notification from GreenDot or from Apple about this.

I opened a ticket with Apple, they connected me to a more senior support person at GreenDot, who offered no help, telling me I have to deal with my state unclaimed property department.

Any suggestions before I bang my head against the state unclaimed property door?

Thanks.

Update: I filed a complaint with CFPB, which got Green Dot's attention, and they refunded my $20. According to the letter they sent, due to the small amount of the property that was to be escheated, notice was

not required by your state prior to the escheatment of the funds. I may ask the state to clarify what the threshold is.
