Sonoma broke exposé?

Since upgrading my iMac 24" to macOS 14 Sonoma, exposé no longer works. This includes the Cmd-Tab and Shift-Cmd-Tab key sequences, as well as the F3 function button. Also broken are the similar Cmd-` and Shift-Cmd-` key sequences that shuffle through the open windows in the current application. This is making my life and, I'm sure, many others' lives, more difficult when trying to navigate in macOS.

Is there a fix for this, or does Apple have to release another update to patch this unforgivable failure of their s/w team to test new releases for breakage of existing features? (I worked in large-group s/w development & maintenance for a couple decades, so I have no pity for those who allowed this to occur.)

iMac 24″, macOS 14.0

Good that you're not having this problem. But browsing through this Community's postings about Sonoma, there are several that mention exposé (or just the Cmd-Tab key sequences) breaking. So while it may not be widespread, I can see it isn't unique. Perhaps everyone needs to be on alert in case it happens to them.

Meanwhile, in one of those reports, someone made the suggestion that Restart would solve the problem. I tried that and it seems to have restored exposé. Fingers crossed that something else down the road doesn't break it again, but now I have a fix if it does.

So at this point, it looks like the problem is

(A) not universal, and

(B) in the installation s/w for Sonoma, not in Sonoma per sé.

Update. Problem fixed, at least temporarily; maybe permanently, idk yet.

On another, similar posting in this Community, someone suggested Restart to fix this (and some problem the OP was having using multiple monitors with Sonoma).

I tried that, it worked, and still is (fingers crossed!). All 5 key sequences I list in my post now function properly.

If this continues successfully, maybe the only thing Apple needs to do is slap a "Restart" on the end of their Sonoma installation package.

okay none of the restarted worked BUT I found the solution here

https://appleinsider.com/inside/macos-sonoma/tips/tip-how-to-turn-off-macos-sonomas-click-to-reveal-desktop#:~:text=For%20macOS%20Sonoma%2C%20Apple%20changed,and%20hides%20all%20your%20apps.

Then I clicked shortcuts at the bottom and found my show desktop was switched to F11. I switched it back to F3 and done.

To be proactive you can file a bug report /submit your Apple Feedback here: Product Feedback - Apple

Yet here I am looking for a solution! I can assure you it happens to me at least once a day on latest software.

Then, you should:

  1. Call Apple Support so Apple knows about the issue.
  2. Run Etrecheck and post the report so we can see what you have installed on your Mac.
  3. Consider erasing and reinstall Ventura.

F3 is Mission Control. Cmd-tab is the application switcher, and cmd-` is the window switcher. The latter two are related, but not to Mission Control.

Really, all we can do is guess at fixes for you if we have no experience in the problem. Essentially, there are only two of you with the problem reporting it here. I think that might equate to a whopping 50 people experiencing the same thing. The possibility that it is caused by some third-party software is quite high.

That generally indicates some obscure combination generating the fault (assuming a restart doesn’t fix things). If it only affects a handful of people, Apple has not historically done anything to fix it because it isn’t a problem with the OS.
