i have a iphone 14 pro max, when my phone is on sleep mode (black screen) and I get a message or whats app in, my phone vibrates once but does not light up screen, any one got any suggestions?

When you say it's on sleep mode, is that the Sleep Focus - as described at Turn your Sleep Focus on or off on iPhone - Apple Support - or is it just sitting idle? If you use Focus, we'd recommend checking the settings as Focus can disable notifications or impact how they behave.
