Can't download mission impossible Dead reckoning, download arrow is gray not white. I can stream the movie but I download all my movies into a local 3TB HDD? The other 2 movies I just purchased (Greatest Showman and Equalizer 3) are the same, I can stream but not download?

Hi marmstrong215,

We understand you're unable to download some purchased content on your Mac. To double-check, when you click the gray arrow, is there any response at all, or an error message of any kind?

You mentioned this is happening two other recent purchases. Is it only happening with these three? If you have older purchases, test to see if you can download those to narrow things down.

Also, based on the resource titled If you can't watch or stream movies and TV shows in the Apple TV app, you might want to make sure you've updated your Mac to the latest version of macOS Sonoma. Be sure to back up beforehand: Back up your Mac with Time Machine - Apple Support

"Update to the latest version of the Apple TV app

Update to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, macOS, or tvOS.

If you're using a compatible smart TV, streaming device, or gaming console that's connected to the internet, the Apple TV app should update automatically. If you need help, you can contact the manufacturer or learn how to get the Apple TV app on your device."

Take care.

All apple products are updated automatically, iWatch, iPad, Mac Mini 2, Apple TV 4K (all 3). I can stream all movies. It's downloading them for local external HDD storage for when the internet is down, etc. I've always been able to download purchased movies so this is because of a recent OS update I think. The grayed download arrow is a dead link and no message as to next step. 2 of the 3 movies I found on my internal Mac mini 2 SSD where they were downloaded instead of my ext 3TB HDD which has been working fine for the last few years even on my old 2011 Mid Mac Mini! Even watching movies on 2 of my Apple tv's are acting funny as the stream/play will go blank for 1 or 2 seconds and then resume. This is also a recent event and it's annoying. Ive been associated with Apple products since the early 80's so this is very uncharacteristic on Apple products! BTW these 2 movies were pre-purchased via the TV app. I double checked the download path it's still my external 3TB HDD so very strange that these movies ended up on the Mac mini 2 SSD Movie folder

! TY Mike

Hello marmstrong215,

Let's use the applicable set of steps below to boot your Mac mini into safe mode to see if that behavior persists from there:

Start up in safe mode
Find out whether you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, then follow the appropriate steps.

If you're using a Mac with Apple silicon
1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Press and hold the power button on your Mac. As you continue to hold the power button, your Mac turns on and loads startup options. When you see Options, release the power button.
3. Select your startup disk. It's named Macintosh HD, unless you changed its name.
4. Press and hold the Shift key, then click the “Continue in Safe Mode” button below your startup disk.
5. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

If you're using an Intel-based Mac
If you're not using a Mac with Apple silicon, you're using an Intel-based Mac.
1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window. If you can't start up in safe mode, make sure that your Mac isn't using a firmware password.

You can also find those steps in this resource: Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

It can take a few extra minutes to boot into safe mode. Your screen may flash or flicker while in safe mode. Those behaviors are expected. Testing in safe mode runs a check on your disk, removes some cached files, and can help isolate conflicts with startup items. Once you've tested that behavior in safe mode, you can restart to leave safe mode.

Additionally, if you temporarily change your download path to a local folder on your Mac mini, does that behavior still continue?

Let us know, and we'll keep moving forward based on your results.
