Photos from USB will not upload to iCloud because of JPG (But they have jpg extension)

3600+ photos on USB... Made Album in iCloud and tried both drag & upload cloud button. 1500 upload but the others do not. Some statement that only jpg can be uploaded. BUT these photos have the .jpg extension. They will open in preview so I exported one to the desktop with jpg added and Still doesn't like these photos. The photos are from and old iPhone. I've tried multiple times and called Apple help. Still cannot upload these photos. Maybe they were corrupted (not sure). Why can they open in preview but not upload to iCloud? Any suggestions? (also have 2 TB of iCloud and fast internet)

What is the source of the JPGS? Have they been taken with a digital camera or are the scans? Have they been edited in third party applications?

Sometimes older images cannot be uploaded to iCloud, because they are having colour sync profiles that are no longer supported on the current system version. In that case try to save the image files with a different color sync profile.

You can see the current profile in Preview, if you open the Inspector (Tools > Inspector). And you can also change it from the Tools menu.

Some third party external editors are trying to cheat Photos and saving the edited images as a huge TIFF, but disguising it by appending the filename extension "JPEG". And these fake JPEGs can be causing problems when we try to import them to an iCloud Photos Library. You can see, if the supposed JPEGs are really JPEGs, when you open them in Preview. In the first tab "Document" look at the "Kind". Are the photos really JPEGs?

The Jpegs came from my wife work phone which I believe their "IT" office transferred with each newer iPhone. No external editors were used which leads me to believe it could have been a color sync profile issue. I will try changing some photos today. Thanks for the quick reply and I will let you know if it works.

Okay, The color sync I changed and all seems to work. One more question is I found some duplicates but the file name/number was different. Can a duplicate search be done not using name of file, but maybe something else for the photos in iCloud... Thanks
