Airdrop not working after iOS 17 update

Airdrop not working after updating to iOS 17. I have a 13 mini, and a 12 pro max. Same on both. Current software 17.0.3 on both. Airdrop contacts are available, but no data is sent. Occasionally, the “preparing” message will force close to the previous screen.

Tried network reset, hard reset, no luck.

Airdrop is essential to the Apple device experience, please rectify this issue.

Troubleshooting AirDrop After an Update:

A. Report this to Apple

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

B. Some sites to refer to:

Same here as of 11/19/23 on my iPhone 13 Pro when it updated to 17.1.1 overnight. Tried everything you listed. Cannot send photos to others via AirDrop, texting, or email! None of the apps to share from Photos are clickable, no contacts show up, app defaults to blank white screen when I click on the share icon. All of my other Apple devices work fine, so turned off the update before it hits my iPad and ruins that photo app, too!

My iPhone can accept incoming AirDrop photos from my iPad, but the iPhone can't send.

Same problem here. Since iOS 17.1.1 (I'm now on 17.2), AirDrop stopped working for two different contacts who can no longer see me. I can still send things to them, but I've tried everything online to no avail (verifying details in Contacts app, toggling wifi and bluetooth, restarting all devices, trying when connected to another network, resetting network settings, and on and on).

Their devices popup the "People" header when I am nearby, but don't show me as an option to click and then the whole sharing window becomes unresponsive to clicks. I am able to send them things via Airdrop (so, one way). And if my device is not in range (or has Airdrop turned off) they are successfully able to Airdrop with other contacts.

Previously with these people, Airdrop has been working for years. I was hoping an iOS update would remedy this oddity, but so far no such luck.

Please post any solutions or additional details here, and hopefully we can get this feature working again for everyone!

I followed the instructions, reset phone (13 pro max) once and airdrop worked to transfer half of my pictures to computer from phone. I tried again for the second batch and would not work. Not even after restarting phone. (Strangely, the hard reset would not work again either, as it did the first time.) What's up, Apple?? Clearly this is a problem.
