Sonoma backup always shows skipped
When I click the Backup icon on the tool bar to check the status of backups it always shows "skipping" instead of the last backup.

Not at all the problem. The backups show up when I go into the Time Machine. Before Sonoma, I could click on the icon and it would show status - either preparing, or backing up, or cleaning up, or the date and time of the last backup. Now it always says "skipping". I looked online and a lot of people are having similar problems with Time Machine on Sonoma. I was hoping someone at Apple would have a solution.

I updated to Sonoma 14.1.1, and the Seagate doesn't seem to be disconnecting anymore. Maybe Apple fixed it?

No, I didn't contact them yet. Too many things going on in life right now, but I should do it while I'm under warranty. I've just put the Disk Utility on my toolbar, and I leave the drive plugged in but unmounted and just mount it to do backups when I'm working. My other drive, for "excess data", doesn't do that, and I'm wondering if it's a Seagate thing (data drive is Western Digital). Is your external drive Seagate? Mine is a 5T, WD is 4T.
Yeah, it's an 8 TB Seagate. I've realized that all the Time Machine functions seem to be working well. The only problem I see is that when I click on the TM icon on the upper right of my display, it always shows "Skipping...", even if TM is doing nothing. Otherwise, it's backing up hourly, and I can see recent changes I've made in folders. I think this problem goes away when I reboot, but then it returns after the first backup (so after an hour). Looking forward to a Sonoma update.
Did you get a helpful response from Apple Support? I'm seeing the exact same thing.
Nevermind. It just did it again.
I'm still under warranty - I think I'll just see if Apple Support can help. Thanks anyway.
