Unlink Network Location from two separate MacBook Pros

Dear All,

Our family has two separate MacBook Pros.

On one of them under:

- Locations

- Heg1 MacBook Pro (this is the right laptop name)

- Network

- (it shows Heg2 MacBook Pro - this is the second MacBook Pro)

So every time I work on a document from Heg1 - the recents history shows up on the second Heg2 MacBook.

Question - how do I change or remove the wrong or linked MacBook Network Location from the second laptop?

I have tried signing in to iCloud and unticking sync Docs with iCloud on both laptops. Then signed out of iCloud on the second MacBook (a recommendation from another thread).

Any thoughts, suggestions, advice or guidance to remove this location is highly appreciated!

Thank you,

Leigh

Thank you! I was using the same Apple ID on both laptops but signed out of my Apple ID on my son's laptop. As the files are still syncing, I will sign him up for an Apple ID in order to (hopefully) stop the syncing.

Reason - his laptop is purely for school and the other laptop is just for me now!

I appreciate you taking the time to reply with new advice I can try! Best regards, Leigh

If you are using the same AppleID on both Macs, you'll see the same synchronized file on both.

That's fine if the files are the same user's, in fact that's a benefit of synchronization. All my files are on my three Macs are usable from each machine. For most of us that the goal.

In order to not sync data, you have to have separate AppleIDs for each user. Or if you have the same user on both Macs but don't want to sync, you have to have separate AppleIDs for each Mac.

Generally, each user gets a unique AppleID in order to sync data. But in your case if you done't want to sync machines, you'll need unique AppleIDs for each Mac. But that's going to get confusing.

If it were me, each user would have a unique login ID and AppleID. That way, any given user will see only their synced files on any machine.
