I had a similar issue on an iPhone 13 when setting it up from an iPhone 8 by proximity copy. I got around it by aborting the set-up, starting from scratch again and then using manual set-up without any copy (fresh install). Then I upgraded to 16.7.1 and then to 17.0.3, through the standard settings-general-sofware update approach. And finally after erasing the iPhone and starting again a proximity copy, the set-up this time worked normally. I hope this helps you too.

Hi vxyl,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We would recommend the guidance in the following article that can help if the update is taking a while:

If your iPhone or iPad won't update

If the download takes a long time
You need an internet connection to update your device. The time it takes to download the update varies according to the size of the update and your internet speed. You can use your device normally while downloading the update, and your device will notify you when you can install it. To improve the speed of the download, avoid downloading other content and use a Wi-Fi network.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.

Totally useless advise. . . Instead, make sure your developers do proper testing before releasing updates. . . As many more people on this chat mentioned, stick to manual setup, update, then reset and try copying an existing device. . . Apple performance is more detrimental with the years. . Before, you were able tu setup, upgrade, use your device in no time, now, so many hoops to deal with from a brand new unboxed device and yes, I’m on full internet connection (1GBPS)

Same thing happened to me when I updated. Now Apple says my phone is broken and I got to pay out of pocket to buy a new one. I’ve never dropped my phone, never got it wet or nothing. I work from home and use pods for texts and calls. But I updated, it got stuck on verifying update for a day and it doesn’t work anymore and I have to buy a new phone this is so scammy. I’ve only had the phone a lil over a year and it’s broken for no apparent reason outside of the update. I’m ashamed to even support or recommend apple products anymore. So not cool.

I experienced somewhat similar with my iPhone 13 pro Max. It will not complete the update from iOS 16 to 17 and the phone is 1 year and 2 months old. I work from home and leave my phone docked and did not want to pay for additional apple care. When going to the apple store I was told that this happens alot during updates and my phone is broken. I have can upgrade or pay 499 for repairs. My phone has never been dropped, never gotten wet, has no scratches, barely touched and never been out of the protective case. This is a manufacturing and software issues that Apple is aware of but will not cover after the 1 year warranty has expired. So if you did not elect to pay for apple care after the year then you are stuck with a dead $1300 phone. Many others have the same experience. If you have had the same or similar experience vote up helpful for transparency.
