Footage is washed out on output no matter what?
Any project I output from FCPX to any H.264 format is washed out and losing so much detail in the highlights? I have tried several parameter and they all seem about the same.

The media is Rec 709 and should be edited in that color space and exported like that. You really can't force SDR into HDR.
Please give the specs of your original media and the project properties. Is this HDR footage? What OS and FCP version are you using? Start with these questions.
Are you editing HDR material?
Please give details about the media and the project settings.
Original Material is from an iPhone 13 Pro HDR Source file says Apple ProRes 422 HQ
Color Space in FCPX is Wide Gamut HDR Rec. 2020 PQ
Looks great in FCPX, but outputs even in Apple ProRes 422 HQ do not look nearly as good.
Thanks very much for the feedback
Rec. 2020 PQ? That’s the project? iPhone HDR is DolbyVision HLG.
Thanks, stand corrected

I've known for some time that Mr.Tom Wolsky, Mr.Luis Sequeira1, and Mr.fox_m are helping people in need. I am active in the Japanese FCP community, but there is less information in Japanese than in English. I would like to join the American FCP community and learn more.
*I'll just say my first greeting. I am using a translation function, so please forgive me if my English is incorrect. from Japan🇯🇵
Any thoughts on the OP?
Did you change the project settings to the iPhone HDR format?
Any thoughts on the OP?
No idea. I'm an invisible person who only reads.
I selected Wide Gamut HDR - Rec. 2020 HLG
That seems closest to what you suggested? iPhone HDR is DolbyVision HLG?
I am using FCPX 10.6.10 under MacOS Sonoma 14.0
Results look a little better, but if I output 422, it still doesnt not look as good as the original footage. Thanks again for your support.
Would it be possible to share an original clip, perhaps using Dropbox or WeTransfer? The link will appear in notification emails but not in the forum.
Apple removed the Dropbox link
Thank you for the clip. Is that the exported file? H.264, 720p, 30fps? If the original is HDR you would have to export HEVC 10-bit to maintain the HDR quality.
hmmm, I thought I was capturing in HDR, I checked a clip on iCloud and it says it is H.264? So, with that said I am still not clear about what my output should be to maintain the quality I am seeing in FCPX?
Sorry for the run around on the codec, I should have checked first
It is still unclear to me: is the clip that you posted the exported or the source clip?
