retrieving a note

While editing a note, I accidentally erased most of it that was entered over a period of weeks. I lost the content. How can I go back and find the original from a couple of days ago?

iPhone 7, iOS 11

Hello serck,

If you have the notes synced to iCloud, you may be able to recover it with these steps:

1. In Notes on iCloud.com, select Recently Deleted in the folder list on the left.
2. If you don’t see Recently Deleted, you don’t have any notes in that folder, and there’s nothing to be recovered.
3. Select a note, then click Recover in the Notes toolbar.

Delete and recover notes on iCloud.com

If you just keep the notes stored directly on the device, then you may be able to recover the deleted one if you have a backup that was done while the note was still on the device. You can go to Settings > name at the top > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Device name, to see the date/time of the last backup.

If the backup was done while the note was still on the device, you can restore the backup to get the item back: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Keep in mind, when you restore a backup it will restore the device to the exact way it was at that time. Anything that's changed on the device from the time of the backup until now will be removed. So say for example, your backup was last night at 10 pm. Anything that has been added to the device from 10 pm until now will be removed when you restore the backup. (pictures you've taken, messages sent/received, apps installed, settings changed, etc.)

Cheers!
