Automatically Switching AirPods Connections:

You Can't. What you need to do is perform this manually --unpair them from one device, and, then pari them to the other device. Bluetooth devices can only be paired to one device at a time. This is the way the Bluetooth Protocol works.

Why the Issue? Because it is currently paired with another device.

Recommend this to Apple:

Do your Part: If you think this is a useless feature of Apple, then inform Apple of this. Apple wont get back to you directly on this, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they'll know what suits their customers' needs and wants. Apple will not know you opinions of this, if you don't report it.

1. Go Here: Feedback - AirPods - Apple
2. Select: "FEATURE REQUEST" for the "Feedback Type"
3. Comment: that you want this to be an option and why.. Include the URL of this thread.
4. Proceed from there as necessary
