Can't delete photos

I'm trying to free up space on my iphone 6s Plus running ios 13.x but they won't delete. Googling, it's suggested they're synched - but I have icloud sync on only for my texts and voice memos, and I didn't intentionally sync them to my PC. Trying to unsync them if I did accidentally, I'm supposed to do it via iTunes, but when I try to open iTunes today it says I must delete the old version before continuing. Why? Yesterday, clicking on the same icon, iTunes simply started, today it won't. I don't want any new versions of anything and I don't want anything synced to anything.

Oh and also, yesterday all my mail on my phone vanished when I was trying to back my iphone messages (only) only to iCloud - I kept getting not enough room when the messages were only 50MB and I had 3 gigs free on iCloud - now I keep getting that I have to buy more space - what BS!

Hello milosk1,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, it's great to have you here.

The first thing we'd recommend is that you reinstall iTunes from scratch, by deleting the app from your PC and reinstalling it from the Microsoft Store. This article from Microsoft should help you delete iTunes to start with: Uninstall or remove apps and programs in Windows After that, download and install iTunes from scratch: Download and use iTunes for Windows 10 - Apple Support

Now that you have iTunes installed and hopefully working as expected, you can make any changes that you'd like with regard to syncing your iPhone with your PC: Sync photos in iTunes on PC with devices - Apple Support

Finally, this article may help you free up storage space in iCloud if need be: Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support

We hope this does the trick for you!

Cheers.

Well I guess community specialist responses are auto generated by AI, because I've seen several that don't address the poster question. Here I specifically DON'T want to sync anything to anything. Secondly, I already have enough storage space on iCloud for what I need, and thirdly I specifically don't want to install the latest version of iTunes - I was happy with the version that worked fine the day before, and was wondering why it didn't work the following day. To me it seems all designed to have you buy more space than you need on iCloud and to download software that may have additional bloated features or data gathering abilities that have been added to the previous version.
