Updated Library Failure

I had a 400+GB Library that needed to be update to 10.6.8. The Library was probably last opened in 10.6.6. After it was updated at least one of the Events showed 8 images. There were dozens in the Original Files folder - I import into the Library - and a Project showed up properly in the Timeline in spite of many of the images not showing up in the Browser. Clicking on a clip in the timeline and telling it to Show in Browser caused a spinning wheel requiring a forced restart of FCP. I had a backup and I'm going to copy that back to another drive and try opening that. I am pretty sure several other events were similarly affected. We'll see. Any ideas?

It’s not a good idea to let Libraries get that big.

Is this a backup of the whole library, including the media?

If you can get a copy of 10.6.6, and open the copy before trying to update, make sure to delete all generated files. This should reduce the size of the library considerably.

And if most of library is due to actual source files, you should really use external media.

If the backup doesn’t contain the media (as is the case with the backups that FCP does automatically), you can update that and then relink the media.
