Sonoma restart "Installer progress"

I installed Sonoma and later at restart it hung for a while showing "Installer progress" near the Apple icon. This was before anything else showed in menu bar. Any suggestions? My system is an 2020 Mac Mini M1

Troubleshooting a Stalled macOS Upgrade:

Boot in Safe Mode:

Apparently, the macOS is stalled. To, try logging in while in Safe Mode. In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once logged in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and then restart your Mac, seeing if you can log in go here: How to Use Safe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support

So several restarts, both "hot" and "cold" plus boots to safe mode. Problem still there - sometimes it clears but, returns after a few restarts, even for a new user …

Tried deleting all snapshots as Disk Utility was happy with some snapshots so decided getting rid of these would harm. No issues but didn't clear the problem.

The only time it does not happen is booting to safe mode.

Begining to think a clean install is the only thing which might cure it but that is a real hassle which I don't want to go through for what is essentially an annoyance rather than anything serious.

Discovered there's an Apple Silicon app sitting on my system - Rosetta 2 Updater. Whether or not it's causing the problem, I don't know. Seems unlikely it should be there on my Intel iMac but, so far, I haven't be able to delete it …

What I have discovered is that if I stop Automatic Login when booting to Normal Mode, which doesn't happen anyway when booting to Safe Mode, "Installer Progress" doesn't show. Whether that's because of the additional time taken to login, I can't tell …

Thanks - tried that. Terminal tells me it is a "read-only system file" and won't delete it. It's also locked and I can't unlock it but the file is being read …

Although annoying, it's not causing any serious problems so I guess it's just a question of waiting until Apple fix the problem.

Also, annoyingly, I don't normally update to a major new OS release until 6 months or so after it's released, hoping that by then Apple will have cleared all the problems. Don't know why but this time I updated only a couple of months after the release …

Sonoma restart "Installer progress"
