Using airpods 2nd gen to text while driving

My city has just passed a law that you can be stopped and ticketed for having your phone in hand while driving. I have had a gripe with the airpods for a while now but this new law going into effect in January is a hard stop. When trying to send or read a text while driving using my airpods, Siri always says "you'll have to unlock your iphone first". If I can be stopped for picking up my phone to use face ID this is in no way acceptable. Is there a way to bypass this???

Hello WawaMawa,

In many places, it's also illegal to have headphones on while driving. We recommend checking with your local laws and ordinances to check in your area.

While driving it's recommended to use your car's Bluetooth or CarPlay. You can learn about connecting your iPhone to your car here: How to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your car - Apple Support

There isn't a way to bypass this on iPhone as it's a built-in security feature. If you'd like to provide feedback you can do that here: Product Feedback - Apple

Thanks.
