Hi saniyah194,

The button you describe is typically used for resetting AirPods or placing them into pairing mode for non-Apple devices. See Pair AirPods with a non-Apple device for those pairing instructions or How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro for reset instructions.

Generally speaking you should not have to take any specific action on the AirPods case when using them with a device they already paired with. Opening the lid should be sufficient for allowing an Apple widget to display the battery level of the AirPods and case if previously paired. Charge your AirPods and learn about battery life describes that as:

"Open your case lid with your AirPods inside and hold your case close to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Wait a few seconds to see the charge status of your AirPods."

or:

"You can also check the charge status of your AirPods with the Batteries widget on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The charge for your case appears only when at least one AirPod is in the case."

Regards.
