I temporarily created a user on my home machine to use with migration assistant so I could control what went into my real account. But now I see no way to delete that user. I searched the internet but found nothing. Do I just delete that user's home directory?

Don't just delete a user's home directory. Go to System Settings > Users & Groups, then remove the user there. I think it will ask you if you want it to remove the user's directory too. You can say yes or no.

I had this problem too. You have to click the Info button next to the user or group you want to delete, then click Delete User or Delete Group.

Normally the " Owner Account " is the very first Account used when the Computer was Very First Setup as New and out of the box and is sometime referred to as the Administrator Account
That User account can add, Remove, downgrade an account and or UpGrade an account
I did as instructed and went to Users&Groups. I see no way to delete a user on that screen. What's the story.
