I have money from a gift card on my account, however my account will not renew my iCloud subscription without a credit card on file. I do not want to put my card on my account. Why is it not accepting the gift card like it did previously?

Apple requires a payment method to be on file to or while subscribed, even if there's enough store credit to pay for it.
