I need to change my payment method for an existing subscription. I do not want to cancel the subscription.

If your Apple ID account is billed for that subscription, then you should be able to alter the payment method for that account to effect the desired change.

If you need to change or update your Apple ID payment method outlines the steps you can use for such a change as:

"Update your payment method on your iPhone or iPad

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap your name.
3. Tap Payment & Shipping. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.
4. Tap Add Payment Method, enter the new payment method, then tap Done.
5. Tap Edit.
6. Tap the red delete button next to the old payment method, then tap Delete."

Note that you must add a new valid payment method before you can remove an old one if it is the last payment method on file. Purchases and subscriptions will charge to your payment method using the first in the list and going down to subsequent entries if there is a problem. Apple ID balance will always be charged first if one exists.
