Hello. I have tried everything to clear my new message indication, and nothing has worked… My phone still indicates that I have one unread text message. utilizing the filters, it indicates I have no unread messages (but red “1” Messages icon

I have turned messages on and off, turned my phone on and off several times, etc., and none of the recommended solutions work. Any advice would be most appreciated. Using the filters is especially confusing…as I noted above, if you look at unread messages filter it indicates there are no unread messages, all the while, the red circle with a “1” hovers over the Message icon.

Hello chucktrumpjr,

It sounds like you're having an issue with the notification badge for Messages showing an unread message unexpectedly. If so, test having Siri read your unread messages. For example, "Hey Siri, read my messages" If needed the section below found in the article here has steps to help check your settings to enable Siri and test.

"Use Siri to send, read, and reply to messages

You can use Siri to send messages for you, read your incoming texts out loud, and reply to messages. Learn how to use Siri.

Siri: Say something like:

  • “Send a message to Mayuri saying, how about tomorrow?”
  • “Read my last message from Antonio”
  • “Reply, that’s great news!”

Siri can send a message right after it has been read back to you. Go to Settings > Siri & Search > Automatically Send Messages, then turn on Automatically Send Messages."

If the issue continues, check your time sensitive notifications and toggle on/off with the help of the guide here: Change notification settings on iPhone

Should the issue remain, and you've tested the steps above and the iOS is fully updated on your iPhone reach out to Apple Support directly to further assist. Get Support
