How to connect iPhone 15 with Mac Pro 13in retina (mid 2014) via cable?

i used to use an iphone 12, which means it was much easier for me to backup my photos manually to my mac pro.

now i've switched and finding it difficult to find a cable that allows me to backup and sync manually... i have a cable borrowed from a flatmate. it charges but doesnt sync at all, meaning my iPhone 15 doesn't show up on my old mac pro's Finder.

it seems Apple is not even making a cable (USB-c to old school USB 3) for this purpose? i've looked on Apple website but please correct me if i've missed something!!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.7

Hi sisyphucku,

Trying a different cable would be the next step to isolate this issue.

You asked about a cable to connect the USB-C iPhone 15 to your computer with an older USB-A port. There is a cable on the Apple Online Sales page for a Belkin cable with has both connections:

Belkin BOOST↑Charge Pro Flex USB-A to USB-C Cable (1m) - Apple

We hope this helps.

Hi sisyphucku,

Thanks for posting here in Apple Support Communities. It appears that your iPhone doesn't show up in Finder when it's connected to your Mac. Following these steps may help you get this sorted out: If your device doesn’t appear in the sidebar when connected to Mac - Apple Support

If your device doesn’t appear in the sidebar when connected to Mac
If you connected your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac using a USB cable and don’t see it in the Finder sidebar, check the following:

* Check that the cable is properly connected. When your Mac and device are connected correctly, you should see that your device is charging.

* Make sure that the device is unlocked and the Home Screen is visible.

* Check that Finder settings are set to show your device in the sidebar. See the instructions below.

Set Finder settings to show your device in the sidebar
1. Connect your device to your Mac.
You can connect your device using a USB or USB-C cable or using a Wi-Fi connection. See Sync content between your Mac and iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch over Wi-Fi.
2. In the Finder  on your Mac, choose Finder > Settings.
3. Click Sidebar.
4. Below Locations, select the CDs, DVDs, and iOS Devices checkbox.
Check the sidebar again, below Locations, to see if your device is showing.
A device selected in the Finder sidebar.
5. Click the device to see the syncing options.

If your device still doesn’t appear in the sidebar, see the Apple Support article If your computer doesn’t recognize your iPhone or iPad.

Kind regards.
