Thumb Drive Problems

When I plug in a thumb drive, (or external SSD) the dialog appears on screen to allow access for a split second and disappears. So none of my drives will now connect. This is only since upgrading to MacOS Sonoma. The dedicated drive I use for Time Machine works just fine. Any help very much appreciated.

Many thanks for the reply.

It's a 2023 M2 MacBook Air, and the restart got things running smoothly again. Let's hope it isn't going to be a recurring issue.

One again, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Hey Zazu1956,

We'll be happy to see how we can help out.

There are some suggestions you can try when this happens and they are found in the article If a USB device doesn’t work with Mac - Apple Support. Here is one of the steps to help get you started.

* Restart your Mac: Choose Apple menu  > Restart.

If you still are unable to see your external hard drives, reach back out and let us know the MacBook Air model and year. Steps can vary between a Mac with Apple silicon and Intel processors.

Take care!
