Hello douglasfromhook,

It may help to give things a quick refresh by restarting the affected HomePods. If needed, this page can help provide the needed steps for that process: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT20838

Restart HomePod or HomePod mini
1. Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
2. Tap or click HomePod, then tap or click the Settings button .
3. If you have two HomePod speakers set up as a stereo pair, select Restart HomePod. If your HomePod speaker is not set up as a stereo pair, select Reset HomePod, then select Restart HomePod.
If you don't see an option to restart your HomePod, unplug it from power, then plug it back in and try again.
If HomePod still doesn't respond, reset it.

It can also help to see if turning off Dolby Atmos and/or Lossless assists with the issue, to help get to the bottom of things. This page has details on toggling off Dolby Atmos for the HomePod: About Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos in Apple Music - Apple Support

Turn Dolby Atmos on or off
1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Home app.
2. Tap the Home button Home button.
3. Tap Home Settings.
4. Under People, tap your name.
5. Tap Apple Music.
6. Turn Dolby Atmos on or off.

Cheers.
