siri's voice volume too low while usong airpods

The environment I work in is loud at times, I need Siri’s voice volume to be at or near 100%. Had an iPhone 8 and this wasn’t an issue, recently upgraded to a 13 and I cannot get Siri’s voice to 100% while wearing my AirPods.

While siri is talking I manually adjust the volume up to max only to watch it drop to 60% or so once I take my finger off of the volume up button, SUPREMELY frustrating!

I’ve read over dozens of internet searches and have found nothing to fix this issue, some refer to it as “automatic volume adjustment” issue and it needs to be toggled off under settings but that option cannot be found.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi the_atomic_punk,

Here are a few steps that may help.

If you haven't done so yet, restart your iPhone. This step may seem simple, but it will refresh your device and often resolve unexpected behavior. It's also a good idea to make sure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS 17, since this can help with overall performance: Update your iPhone or iPad

If an update is available, be sure to create a backup before installing it.

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

Also, check to see if Attention Aware features are enabled. If so, testing with the setting off is a good isolation step. You can find the feature in Settings > Face ID & Passcode. Learn more here: Turn Attention Aware features on or off on your iPhone or iPad Pro

You mentioned that this occurs when using your AirPods, so if the issue continues, resetting them may help. The steps can be found here: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro

Regards.

Hi the_atomic_punk,

This may be related to the Headphone Accommodations features of your AirPods. With your AirPods connected, open these settings on your iPhone: Settings > Accessibility > Audio/Visual > Headphone Accommodations. Check to be sure the audio settings here are enabled as you would expect.

Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately I still have my issue. Here’s some more clues.

With an AirPod in my ear I’ll say “hey siri raise your voice volume to 100%”, she’ll reply “are you sure, that’s very loud”, I reply “yes”, she then says in a much louder voice “ok I’ve raised it to 100%”. But then the next time she speaks it’s at the unwanted 60% level.

Additionally, one of the times when I asked her to speak at 100% she replied “ok, I’ll turn off Siri automatic volume adjustment”. That worked for about 5 minutes then her voice went down to about 60% again. Funny thing is I can’t find any adjustment in settings for “siri automatic volume adjustment “ and research online indicates it’s only for home products, in which I don’t have any.

So I feel it has something to do with the “Siri automatic volume adjustment “ that Siri eluded to, but it’s no where to be found in settings, could it be something I activated inadvertently when I first setup this phone (oct 14), you know at the beginning, the multiple questions when you activate a new device? I kind of remember a question regarding automatic volume, I could be wrong though. Just frustrating, starting to consume my thoughts lol.
