connected icloud mail to Outlook via an app specific password and can receive mail but not send mail out

I connected my iCloud mail to an outlook account on a windows PC. It asked me to create an app specific password to do so. I did that. The mail linked and for some days, I could send and receive mail. I did not use it for a couple of weeks and when I came back to it, found I could receive mail but not send mail. Each sent mail was put into the drafts folder and a message came back to say it could not be sent.

I have tried revoking and recreating the app specific password to no avail.

I have deleted the Outlook app and then recreated it and re linked the icloud account with new app specific password (2 separate times) and this did not work.

What is the issue with sending mail ?

Hey there DDUNBoston,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We'll be happy to help. For confirmation, you're able to receive email using your iCloud account in the Outlook app, but you're not able to send email, correct?

If you've removed the account and added it back again, you may want to double-check the guidance here, depending on the exact error you're receiving: If you can’t add iCloud Mail, Contacts, or Calendars to Outlook - Apple Support

Let us know how it goes. If the issue persists, please provide us with the wording of any error messages you're receiving.

Take care.
