MacBook Pro no longer going to sleep when closing the lid

After an update with Ventura mid-September my computer no longer goes to sleep when I close the lid. The computer in turn, shuts down completely. A couple weeks later I updated to Sonoma thinking that would resolve the issue and that did not help. I no longer have the battery saver options I previously had, and have no option in the system settings to change this.

I am in a demanding post-graduate program and cannot be without this computer for days, so trying to see what else is possible. I have tried multiple things to resolve this that I found previously on the internet, but nothing is working.

Hi m_cha,

For this, we'd recommend to try starting your computer in Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists while in safe mode.

It may be possible you have some 3rd party software installed preventing the computer from sleeping when the lid is closed. If it sleeps properly in safe mode, we'd recommend checking your login items and removing anything from there that could possibly be causing thisRemove login items to resolve startup problems on your Mac

Cheers.
