Can't access voicemail remotely by pressing #

For years I've always accessed my cell phone voicemail remotely by calling my own cell number and pressing # when the voicemail picks up. For the last week or so, when my voicemail picks up and I press #, nothing happens. The voicemail greeting continues to play and I can't access my voicemail messages. I've tried pressing * instead and that doesn't work either. I've restarted by phone (iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 17) and that didn't help. Anybody have any suggestions or have this happen to them before?

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 16

Hey guys,

Took a bit to figure it out but there is a solution.

The new IOS update comes with "Live Voice". If this is on you cannot access your voicemail remotely. To disable it go to:

Settings

Phone

Live Voice

and turn it off. Enjoy your day!

We’ve just recently started having this issue too. Could this possibly be related to how contacts are stored? For example, let’s say you own a business and have five phone lines, and all five of those lines have their numbers displayed inside of your single business contact. Could that have anything to do with the inability to remotely retrieve voicemails? When we call our main business number and attempt to retrieve voicemails, the # button does nothing. This started not long after we modified our business contact… I don’t think they are related, but what could it be? Just for clarification, if we attempt to retrieve these remotely from the device assigned to that number, it works fine. But the problem is when you call one line from a different line, that’s when we can’t retrieve the messages.

an additional problem that we have had for a long time our hidden voicemails. Seems like not a day goes by a good percentage of our voicemails remain “hidden“ this means they absolutely do not show up on the device, the only way to know about them is to manually call yourself to retrieve them.
