Hi HRH2012,

Can you provide us with more detail about what you're seeing exactly? Are you saying the entire color of your device is changing, or is it the wallpaper?

Also, which icons were smaller? While there's not a way to make your icons smaller on the Home screen, is it possible that you were using Zoom before? If you were and then turned that off, it would make your icons appear to be relatively smaller: If your Home Screen icons are magnified on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

You can check that setting under Settings > Accessibility > Zoom.

Best wishes.

Hi HRH2012,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand the background color will change automatically on your iPad. Is it possible you have Night Shift turned on? This article explains more about this feature which will change the color of your display: Use Night Shift on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

"Night Shift automatically adjusts the colors of your display to the warmer end of the spectrum — making the display easier on your eyes.

About Night Shift

Night Shift1 uses the clock and geolocation of your device to determine when it’s sunset in your location. Then it automatically shifts the colors of your display to warmer colors. In the morning, it returns the display to its regular settings.

Turn on Night Shift

There are two ways to turn Night Shift on and off:

  • Open Control Center. Firmly press the Brightness control icon, then tap brightness icon to turn Night Shift on or off.
  • Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift.2 On the same screen, you can schedule a time for Night Shift to turn on automatically and adjust color temperature.

By default, Night Shift turns on from sunset to sunrise.

Take care.

Hi HRH2012,

Check to see if a Shortcut may be causing the change. We found this information in the article Change the wallpaper on iPad - Apple Support.

Tip: You can set your wallpaper to change automatically by creating a personal automation in the Shortcuts app. Set a schedule for your automation, then add the Set Wallpaper action to your automation. (See the Shortcuts User Guide).

If you still see this behavior happening, reach out to Apple Support by going to Get Support.

Take care!
