Photos and links missing from profile info in Messages

I recently updated to an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

When I go to Messages, tap the profile of the person I’m chatting with and go to view photos, links and files there’s a lot missing.

Everything is all there if I scroll up, but I have many years of messages saved for a handful of people, going back across many phones.

In the image below, there should be hundreds of pictures, waaaaay more than the 9 shown. The odd thing is the top few are recent, since I upgraded the phone. The last two of the dog are probably about 3 years old.

Hello Sefirothe,

This could happen due to many reasons. If you recently upgraded to this iPhone, it still could be in the process of restoring backup data. We would give it some time to complete the restore process.

With that said, were you using Messages in iCloud? If so, make sure that is set up on your new iPhone: Set up iCloud for Messages on all your devices

Do you have the settings to delete old conversations? You can check with these steps: Delete messages and attachments on iPhone

Hoping to hear back.

Cheers!

The phone was activated on 9/25 so nearly a month ago. That should have been plenty of time to finish syncing.

Yes, iCloud backup of messages is on. I’ve already tried turning it off, waiting about a half an hour and turning it back on. I did that earlier this week and it so far has made no change.

Yes, I see the option to delete messages but I do not want to delete them. I just want to be able to quickly find a picture or link I sent to someone maybe 2-3 years ago.

Hi Sefirothe,

Let's try following this user guide and see if it helps.

Share content in Messages on iPhone - Apple Support (NG)

"Find all the content someone shared with you

  1. Open the Messages app  on your iPhone.
  2. Open the conversation whose content you want to see.
  3. Tap the name of the person or group you’re communicating with at the top of a conversation.
  4. Scroll down to the Shared with You section.

Note: Content only appears in Shared with You if the person who sent it is in your contacts.

You can find a Shared with You section in PhotosSafariNewsMusicPodcasts, and other supported apps.

Review and save photos or videos

If you receive multiple photos or videos at the same time, they’re automatically grouped into a collage (two to three items) or a stack (four or more).

  1. Open the Messages app  on your iPhone.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Look inside a stack: Tap to open, then swipe through a stack to view, reply, or interact with each photo or video individually.
    • Save a photo or video: Tap the Save Photo button next to the photo or stack.

Pin shared content

If someone shares content that’s especially interesting, you can quickly pin it in Messages, and it will be elevated in the Shared with You section of supported apps, in Messages search, and in the conversation details (the info you see when you tap the name at the top of the conversation).

  1. Open the Messages app  on your iPhone.
  2. Open the conversation with the content you want to pin.
  3. Touch and hold the message bubble containing the link, then tap Pin .

Note: Photos can be saved to your library, but not pinned."

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
