Is there a way to manually install Rosetta for Adobe After Effects 2022/2024 on M1 chip Macs?

i am using the adobe software after effects 2022/2024 but i cannot use any installed plugins unless i open using rosetta but the box isn’t showing.

the software works perfectly fine without the plugins but the installed plugins are what i need which is what’s asking for rosetta.

i am running macOS Sonoma 14.0 M1 chip on both an iMac & MacBookPro and both have this problem.

it did not ask me to install rosetta so i tried to manually install it through terminal and still nothing shows

When you have After Effects open, go up to the top left and from the menu bar, choose After Effects > About.

What is the version number shown? I ask because Adobe's specs list this (emphasis mine):

  • The 24.0 versions of After Effects are not supported on Rosetta. Mac users can continue to use the 24.0 version on Apple silicon and Intel-based Mac.

In other words, since the 24.0 or newer versions of After Effects don't support calls to Rosetta, then there's no way for the app to use Intel based filters that require it.

About the Rosetta Translation Environment | Apple Developer Documentation

"Rosetta translates all x86_64 instructions, but it doesn’t support the execution of some newer instruction sets and processor features, such as AVX, AVX2, and AVX512 vector instructions. If you include these newer instructions in your code, execute them only after verifying that they are available."

Adobe – After Effects system requirements

Under the Windows section, Adobe says, "Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2) Support required." I bet they require it for their macOS/Intel code, too. The macOS section says "Intel 6th Gen or newer"; an Intel data sheet for a random 6th-generation Core i5 showed that it had AVX2 support.

I would surmise that Adobe relies on AVX2 instructions in the 24.0 Intel versions of After Effects. Thus,

"The 24.0 versions of After Effects are not supported on Rosetta."
