My boyfriend is sharing his location with me on his iPhone 8plus but I have an iPhone XR with the iOS 17 update and his location isn’t showing up. Why is this is it because of the outdated iOS on the 8 plus?

So long as the iOS has the feature, it would be compatible. We'd recommend that he confirm his settings per Share or stop sharing your location - Apple Support and that nothing was stopped or disabled unintentionally.
