Cleaning up photos on iPhone/iPad to stop duplicates

Hello! So with the new update we can all see dupes (I had a lot.....) we have on iPhoto/iCloud which is great! But then when syncing all the dupes may come back... I know photos are in my phone and are doing this, but is there a way to be able view/edit photos from phone so they do not dupe other than going thru one by one on the phone or have the Mac override the phone when syncing photos to adding only new ones?

Hello ShadowMachine,

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. We see you want to remove duplicate photos from iCloud. We have a few steps that will help you take care of this. Please follow those below and let us know if you have any questions.

Merge duplicate photos and videos on iPhone - Apple Support

"The Photos app  identifies duplicate photos and videos in your photo library in the Duplicates album. You can merge duplicate photos and videos to save space and clean up your library.

The Duplicates screen, showing duplicate photos next to each other. On the right side of the screen are Merge buttons to merge each pair of duplicate photos.

  1. Tap Albums, then tap Duplicates below Utilities.
  2. Duplicate photos and videos appear next to each other.
  3. Tap Merge to combine the duplicates, then tap Merge [number] Items.
  4. Merging combines the highest quality version and all of the relevant data across the duplicates, and keeps that one in your library. The remaining duplicates are moved to the Recently Deleted album."

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
