Have you looked in the Trash (last icon in the Dock) if it's there? Do you have a Time Machine back from which you could recover the file?
Pages will not autosave your work until you manually save a document and give it an appropriate document name. Thus, it is wise to manually save a Pages document even before entering any content so you have the failsafe of autosave working for your document changes.
If you did save it then your document may have been either all, or in part, backed up to a Time Machine drive. Without Time Machine, if you moved that document to the Trash and emptied the Trash, then it is gone for good unless you made a backup copy elsewhere in the local or mounted drive. If still in the Trash, right-click on that document and select Put Back.
Without saving the document and just exiting Pages, the content is gone forever. WIthout satisfying anything in the preceding paragraph, the document is gone forever.
If the document had been saved, but was on iCloud Drive and deleted, you can sign back into iCloud Drive anytime in the following thirty days and recover the document.
