2021 Macbook M1 Boot Loop Issue Solved

Symptom: 2021 MacBook Pro 16 inch starts a boot cycle then fails. Boot options menu (holding the power button for 10 secs) does not work. Upon start-up, if you aim a light at the center of the screen, you will see the Apple appear for 3-5 secs then shutdown.

  1. I do not recommend a Recovery attempt if you do not have a recent, solid backup - it likely will not work and you will lose your data.
  2. I do not recommend a logic board replacement, again you will lose your data... first attempt a LCD Screen lid angle sensor and Display replacement. (Cost as of 2023 with labor and parts was about $800.)
  3. And lastly (Sigh Apple) you cannot pull the hard drive it is embedded in the logic board.

Hope this helps you.

Ooops - I signed in accidentally on a very old account above there... maybe admin can delete it?

This was solved by a certified Reseller that repaired my 2021 MacBook Pro 16 inch. They followed path 2. from above and everything is back to 100% - I'm typing from that MBP right now.

This seems to be happening quite a bit. My 2021 Mbp M1 14 inch suffered from this same issue. Gave it to Apple who sent to repair center who replaced the same two things (lid angle sensor and display).

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, they also performed a clean install of MacOS so the I lost all the things that were not in iCloud.

Here is another discussion about the same thing : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255084605?login=true&page=1

Hoping that if this becomes a reasonable common issue, there is some class-action taken similar to the old butter fly keyboards. This was a painful $748+tax to shell over shortly after warranty finished
