email sliding my screen sideways and then opens and closes repeatedly when I try to send an email from a link or external site of any kind

If I click on any type of external link to send an email, my email opens and then opens and closes every 1-2 seconds by sliding my current screen to the left. I have to quit mail to get it to stop. I can only send mail directly from my mail ( either, gmail or hotmail). It has been going on for a couple of years, , actually since I bought the device. Im on BigSur version 11.7 and my Macbook is M1 2020
