AppleCare is explained further here: AppleCare Products - iPhone - Apple. You can buy the AppleCare online to add to your iPhone, but it will apply to the country in which your iPhone was purchased.

When purchasing an iPhone, it is best to seek service in the same country where it was purchased. Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and HomePod to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

In this article, it explains: “Service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested. Service options, parts availability and response times may vary according to country. Apple may use Apple Products or replacement parts for service that are sourced from a country that is different from the country from which the Apple Product or original parts were sourced. You may be responsible for shipping and handling charges if the Apple Product cannot be serviced in the country it is in. If you seek service in a country that is not the original country of purchase, you will comply with all applicable import and export laws and regulations and be responsible for all custom duties, V.A.T. and other associated taxes and charges.”

Considering what's has been posted there it seems not, I'd call the British Apple support once back and ask. Because I understand that the UK brexited but it's the EU and in the EU the warranty is valid in all 27 member states, so give them a call.
