I'm so stressed by the 8khz high-frequency noise in my Mac Studio.

2022 Apple M1 Ultra / 128GB Memory / 8tb ssd / 48core gpu / ventura 13.6

Please help me, I'm too anxious because of the ongoing 8khz noise.

This isn't a fan noise. It seems to be an electrical issue.

I went to the Apple Store repair center, but they couldn't find the cause.

They suggested changing the power supply unit, but they said they wouldn't take responsibility.

The warranty has expired, and the replacement cost is $300.

Please, can you give me some ideas? Is this my fault?

(At least I blocked the lower part to make it less audible.)

Please listen.

There have been a lot of complaints about noise related to the original Mac studio, that defied our attempts here on the forums to categorize them or limit them to anything in particular.

Then this guy comes up with a different theory. He says it's whistling, like a flute:

updated Mac studio has an ever-so slightly different treatment of the grille at the corners, and I don't think it's down to ease-of manufacture.

<<. But that sound is different from mine.

My noise is at 8000Hz, not 2600Hz. >>

If yours is not the common 'whistling' described in that article, it may be one of the other "usual suspects" that were proposed (and largely rejected) when MacStudio noise issues first came to light.

High frequencies may mean your power supply produces 'Coil Whine' -- an unwanted vibration in the open wires of the large wire-wound coils used in the Power supply. Coil Whine would typically be considered a defect, and should be subject to repair under warranty.

But you would need to convince your Apple-Owned Store or Authorized Service Provider to obtain another power supply module and swap them to test that theory.

Yes. The part that I'm most suspicious of is the "coil" inside the power supply unit.

However, my warranty has expired, so I'm considering replacing it at my own expense.

Even the engineers don't seem confident about it.

But I'm going to attempt the replacement.

For me, this noise is really stressful.. and I can't buy another new Mac by spending $7000 again..
